India Beats Australia To Win The 1st Test at Mohali

India Vs Australia 1st Test

One of the best test matches ever seen! Undoubtedly one of the best ever! What a nail biter! Australia gave their best to remove Ishant Sharma and VVS Laxman but they couldn't do that till the time India had already confirmed that they would win.

Sachin and Zaheer started the proceedings today morning as India needed 161 runs to win. Zaheer departed early on 10. Tendulkar and VVS Laxman were well set as they managed a partnership of 43 runs. Tendulkar scored 1000 runs in this year creating again a new record of scoring more than 1000 runs in a year for the sixth time. Bollinger removed Sachin to bring in Dhoni. Dhoni was run out on 2. In the same over of Bollinger, Harbhajan was removed and India were 8 down for 124.

Ishant Sharma was exceptional with his batting. He wasn't expected to stay there and play 92 deliveries. But he did that and scored 31 runs. He along with Laxman (73 runs) scored a partnership of 81 runs. Ishant Sharma was adjudged LBW which was again an incorrect decision by the umpires. then came in Pragyan Ojha who survived a plumbed LBW, which wasn't given out. Things were evened out. The appeal was followed by an over throw by Clarke for a boundary. Later in this over, 2 runs of leg byes helped India reached their target.

It was again Laxman, who inspite of his severe back pain, survived and cruised India to victory. Zaheer Khan was declared Man of the Match.

The good news of this victory of this match was followed by a gloomy news that Gambhir and Ishant Sharma are ruled out of the 2nd test due to injuries. They are to be replaced by opener Abhinav Mukund and fast bowler Jaidev Unadkat from Saurashtra.

Match Evenly Poised After Day 2 Of India Vs Australia 1st Test

India Vs Australia 1st Test - Day 2

Australia started the proceedings exactly the way they ended on day 1. They were over cautious and batting with a very slow run rate in the first session. After Watson fell victim to Harbhajan on 126, Paine anchored the Australian innings very well. He scored his career best 92 off 196 balls. He was a part of very important partnerships with Johnson (47) and Ben Hilfenhaus (20 unbeaten). Australia managed to score a respectable total of 428 off 151.4 overs, a run rate of 2.82 which we are not used to see when the Australians bat.

Zaheer Khan clinched 5 wickets giving away 94 runs. Harbhajan claimed 3 and Ojha clinched one wicket. Ishant Sharma is a worry for the skipper Dhoni as he gave away 71 runs off 11.4 overs (economy rate over 6).

India got a good start before Gambhir fell to Johnson on 25. Sehwag went on to score a quick half ton before he was caught by Clarke off Johnson on 59. Sehwag equalled the record of scoring a half century or more in 11 consecutive Test matches. Viv Richards and Gautam Gambhir are the only other two batsmen to have achieved this record before Sehwag. Dravid is batting brilliantly on 21 (28 balls) with the night watchman Ishant Sharma. India have scored 110/2 in 21 overs. A very aggressive approach which they have owned since a few years now thanks to Sehwag. This approach has given them an edge over the other teams in test cricket.

Stay tuned for day 3 which will probably decide the fate of this test match. Will it be India who scores a mammoth total to put kangaroos under pressure or will it be the Australia who will quickly wrap up the things.. India Vs Australia Day 3 will tell it all!
